Before you start

Jaipur traffic builds through the day, so the trick is to visit the hill forts early and save the old city and markets for the afternoon. Wear comfortable shoes, carry water and keep some cash for parking, entry and small purchases. Monument timings and ticket prices change, so check current details on the official tourism website before you go.

Tip: Ask about the composite monument ticket, which covers several state-run sites and can save money and queue time.

Morning: Amber Fort and Jal Mahal

  1. Amber (Amer) Fort. Start as early as you can. The fort is about 11 km north of the old city, and arriving before the tour buses makes a big difference. Allow 2 to 2.5 hours.
  2. Jaigarh or Nahargarh (optional). If you love forts and views, add one of the hill forts above Amber. Otherwise, move on to keep the day relaxed.
  3. Jal Mahal photo stop. The “water palace” sits in Man Sagar Lake on the way back to the city. A 15-minute stop is enough for photos.

Midday: City Palace and Jantar Mantar

Head into the walled Pink City. The City Palace and Jantar Mantar, the UNESCO-listed astronomical observatory, are next to each other, so your driver can drop you at one gate and wait nearby. Allow around 2 hours for both, then break for lunch. The old city has plenty of local restaurants.

Afternoon: Hawa Mahal and the bazaars

The Hawa Mahal façade is best seen from across the road, and the small museum inside shows the famous windows from behind. From here, explore Johari Bazaar for jewellery and Bapu Bazaar for textiles, juttis and souvenirs. Agree a pickup point with your driver, because parking inside the old city is limited.

Evening: Albert Hall and Birla Mandir

Finish at the Albert Hall Museum, which is lit up beautifully after dark, and the white marble Birla Mandir near Moti Dungri. If you still have energy, Nahargarh’s sunset view over the city is one of Jaipur’s best, but it needs extra time.

Half a day only?

Focus on Amber Fort, a Jal Mahal photo stop and Hawa Mahal. That covers Jaipur’s most iconic sights in about 4 to 5 hours.

Why a private cab works best

A private cab with a local driver saves the time you would spend arranging autos between sights, keeps your bags safe in the car and lets you change the plan on the go. Book a Jaipur sightseeing taxi and share your must-see list, and we will suggest the best order for your day.
